Objective

Aim of the course

The aim of the course is learning to assess factors that affect health promotion as well as to plan and implement preventive and health-promoting physiotherapy to older people and those with the most common chronic diseases realiable and valid way.

Intended learning outcome of the course:

You understand the factors that influence the establishment of an interactive relationship. You know how to guide older people and those with a chronic disease in preventive and health-promoting physiotherapy face-to-face and remotely in physiotherapy. You know how to document in compliance with general recording requirements.
You can assess and measure the functioning of an older person and those with a chronic disease as well as to map risk factors using person centred, valid and reliable methods.
You can describe digital methods and technology for assessing the mobility and functioning of a person with a chronic disease as well as for planning, rehabilitation, guidance and counselling. You recognise wellness technology solutions that you can use to support person's activity and functioning.
You know how to select the most common evidence-based and person centered methods of physiotherapy to promote a person's health and to support their functioning, taking the person into consideration in a bio-psycho-social framework.

Content

The core content of the course comprises assessing the cardiovascular and respiratory systems and body image as well as opportunities for health promotion and health literacy. Another key area is evidence-based physiotherapy methods for chronic diseases: the metabolic syndrome, overweight, type II diabetes, the most common cancers, psychiatric diseases, treatment of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. The course also includes methods of preoperative and postoperative physiotherapy for soft tissue surgery patients, methods for changes associated with pregnancy and ageing (memory disorders) as well as psychophysical physiotherapy methods for relaxation and improving body awareness.
