Objective

The aim of the course is that you get familiar with work ability and functioning.

Course competences:

Functioning in working life
Occupational and interprofessional practices (Physiotherapist)
Social work skills for clients in the social sector (Social Worker)
Expertise in theoretical basis of rehabilitation and occupational therapy (Occupational Therapist)
Assessment of rehabilitation needs and possibilities (Rehabilitation Counselling)

Competency objective:
Understand the comprehensiveness and different dimensions of the concepts of work ability and functioning. You can use the ICF framework to describe functioning. You understand and recognize the use of the Resident Assessment Instrument, RAI, in the assessment of functioning and service needs. You will understand health literacy in person centred work. You can review factors that maintain and promote physical functioning, identify the impact of physical activity on your ability to study and work, and know how to use physical activity to support your own well-being and coping.

Content

The main content of the course is work ability and functioning: related terminology, the ICF framework and ergonomics. Recommendations for physical activity and physical functioning, the effects of physical activity on study and work performance and recovery, different measures of physical fitness and physical activity as a means of promoting personal well-being. You will also learn about the Resident Assessment Instrument, RAI, and improve your health literacy skills.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

You can define the basic terminology of work ability and functioning, and describe functioning using the ICF framework. You will consider health literacy themes in your work. You recognise the use of RAI assessment tools in the assessment of functioning and service needs. You will identify and be able to use of evidence based data on physical activity and you can choose physical activities to promote your own well-being.
