Objective

Student is able to examine and analyze functional capacities and limitations, specially lokomotive ability:
o understands the structures and functions of the following parts of the Neuro-Muscular system: Motor pathways, motor units, Neuro-muscular junctions and musclefibers
o knows the peripheral nerves which activate the muscles of the upper & lower limbs
o understands the effects of inactivity, physical activity and exercise to the human body.
Student is able to plan and execute therapeutic exercise methods aplying knowledge from biomechanics, exercise physiology and neurophysiology.
o is able to conduct and analyze physical performance tests related to endurance, speed & strength
o is able to understand the control mechanisms and evaluation related to stability and balance

Content

Course is divided into 3 parts:

1) Kinesiology of the Neuro-muscular system: Functions and innervations of the muscles moving upper and lower limbs. Mechanical & neurological aspects of muscular activity - neuromuscular junctions and musclefibers.

2) Exercise Physiology: Human physical performance; endurance, strength & speed and assessment of physical fitness.

3) Biomechanics: Control systems related to human movements and balance. Muscle force; neurological and mechanical effects related to training and force production. Evaluation of balance.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Student can study and analyse the preconditions and limitations of functioning, particularly the client’s locomotion.
Student can plan and implement progressive therapeutic exercise by utilising knowledge of pathophysiology, exercise physiology and neurophysiology, as well as biomechanics and the principles of motor learning.
Student acts individually in english in different situations at different enviroments.
Excellent (5 ) and Very good (4): The student has advanced knowledge and understanding of human performance (neurophysiology, exercise physiology and biomechanics) as well as ability to evaluate and measure physical performance. Student is able to plan therapeutic exercise mathods and has clear understanding related to the effects of exercises. The student is able to draw on the skills acquired and demonstrated by him/her to instructively complete course learning assignments. The student is able to assess his/her competence and the skills acquired by him/her critically and instructively and to further improve them.
Good (3): The student has a good knowledge and understanding of human performance (exercise physiology and biomechanics) as well as ability to evaluate and measure physical performance. The student is able to apply the latest national and international evidence-based information acquired by him/her.
Satisfactory (2): The student uses the relevant information sources of the course and is able to assess the information used by him/her.
Adequate (1): The student has basic knowledge and understanding of human performance (exercise physiology and biomechanics) as well as ability to evaluate and measure physical performance.
Fail (0) KNOWLEDGE: The student does not have a basic knowledge and understanding of human performance (exercise physiology and biomechanics) as well as ability to evaluate and measure physical performance.
