Code: LVAB0200

Credits

5 op

Teaching language

  • Finnish

Responsible person

  • Tero Vesisenaho
  • Jaakko Tukia

Objective

The students know the main solid and liquid refined biofuel products and their production processes, as well as the basics of biogas production. They can estimate the raw material flows of a pellet and briquette factory, the field area required for biofuel production, the biogas production potential of different biomasses, and the prerequisites for production in the Finnish climate. The students are familiar with the production process of biodiesel from oil plant seeds and the utilization techniques of biogas in the countryside.

Content

- the production techniques and economy of solid and liquid biofuels and biogas
- the production and practical application of pellets, briquettes, biodiesel and biogas

Qualifications

LMWB02200 Bioenergy Use in the Rural Areas

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Adequate learner (1) knows the production techniques of solid and liquid biofuels and biogas from domestic biomasses
Satisfactory learner (2), in addition to the aforementioned, knows information sources of the field and can identify potential uses of refined biofuel products
Good learner (3), in addition to the aforementioned, can estimate the economy and material flows of the production of refined biofuel products and knows the utilization techniques of refined biofuels
Very good learner (4), in addition to the aforementioned, is familiar with the present state of research in the field and can design a biomass refining unit and estimate its profitability in the rural areas
Excellent learner (5), in addition to the aforementioned, can assess the competitiveness of refined biofuel products and the market situation development, as compared to other fuels, and can apply research data to practice and to development activities
