Objective

The student knows the parts connected to operator networks: terminology, used technical implementations and general topics related to network structure.

The student has a command of principles of operator network design and is able to design telecommunication protocols related to it based on requirement specifications taking into account various practical regulations.

Content

The course includes commonly used protocols and solutions in operator networks.

Operations and technologies of 1st, 2nd and 3rd level operators.

Additionally, technical solutions of operator networks are practiced in the course utilizing technological demos.

Qualifications

Local area network technologies: Internet protocol addressing, subnetworking and routing. Ethernet protocol frame structure, virtual local area networks and switching. Layered structure of telecommunication.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Excellent 5: The student shows wide command of the theory related to operator networks and is able to assess existing solutions extensively. The student is able to design independently applicable data network protocols, devices and implementation to an operator network based on requirement specification. The student is able to implement his/her own plan independently. The student’s reflection their learning is realistic.

Very good 4: The student shows extensive command of theory related to operator networks and he/she is able to analyze existing solutions in in a versatile manner. The student is able to design applicable data network protocols, devices and implementation to an operator network based on requirement specification. The student is able to implement his/her plan. The student is able to reflect on their learning.

Good 3: The student shows command of the terminology related to operator networks and is able to analyze existing solutions. The student is able to design applicable data network protocols, devices and implementation to an operator network based on requirement specification. The student is able to implement his/her plan. The student’s reflection on their learning is restricted.

Satisfactory 2: The student shows command of the most essential terminology related to operator networks and is able to understand the existing solutions. The student is able to design an applicable part of a whole operator network based on requirement specification. The student is able to implement their plan with assistance.

Sufficient 1: The student shows command of terminology related to operator networks in outline and is able to identify the existing solutions partly. The student is able to design devices and an outline of a way to implement a plan based on given requirement specification when instructed. The student is able to implement their plan with assistance.

Fail 0: The student does not meet the minimum criteria set for the course.
