Objective

The learning objective is that the student understands the basics of electrical engineering, electrical networks, electrical drawings, electric motor drives and electrical safety. Other learning objectives are that the student can independently dimension and select devices and also build small-scale electric motor drives. The student understands the significance of the quality of electricity and the source of interferences in their faultless function. The student has the basic knowledge of building electrification.

EA-KN Knowledge and understanding: Students understand the basics of the electrical engineering and the use of electricity in the different technical applications.
EA-EN Engineering analysis: Students can apply the basic laws of electricity to both analyze and calculate the basic electrical circuits and do practical dimensioning assignments.
YHTTY Working life skills: Students have basic understanding about the source information the electrical designers needs and she/he can better co-operate on the interface between mechanical and electrical engineering.

Content

The main contents are the basics of AC- and DC-circuits, electrical networks, electrical drawings, electric motors and their network connection devices, electric motor drives, the quality of electricity, sources of interference, electrical safety and laboratory works.

Qualifications

Handling powers and roots, reducing expressions, application of right and oblique triangle trigonometry, vector calculation, solving equations and pairs and sets of equations.
SI unit system, transformation of units, magnitude calculation.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Excellent (5): The student masters the basic laws of electricity and can independently apply the knowledge to the different types of DC- and AC-circuits calculations. The student can independently dimension the components of a simple electric drive system and understand the meaning of the power quality in the electrical systems. The student pictures the interfaces between electrical and mechanical engineering. The students understands the importance of electrical safety and can obey the safety instructions.

Very good (4): The student masters the essential laws of electricity and can solve basic types of DC- and AC-circuits calculations. The student understands, which issues need to be taking into consideration in the dimensioning the components of a simple electric drive system. The student understands, how the power quality has the influence to the function of the electrical systems. The students understands the importance of electrical safety and can obey the safety instructions.

Good (3): The student knows the basic of DC- and AC-circuits. The student can apply the knowledge to the simple dimensioning and calculation assignments. The student knows, which issues need to be taking into consideration when choosing the right components to the electric drive system. The student is aware of, how the power quality has the influence to the function of the electrical systems. The students understands the importance of electrical safety and can obey the safety instructions

Satisfactory (2): The student knows the basic laws and terminology of the electricity, but has difficulties for applying these to practical problems. The student can satisfactorily solve basic calculations. The student can obey the electrical safety instructions.

Adequate (1): The student knows the basic laws and terminology of the electricity, but has difficulties for applying these to practical problems. The student can obey the electrical safety instructions.

Hyvä (3): Sinulla on tieto ja ymmärrys tasa- ja vaihtosähköpiirien keskeisestä teoriasta ja osaat soveltaa osaamistasi perusvirtapiirilaskuihin. Tunnet sähkökäyttöjen perusteet ja ymmärrät, mitä asioita pitää huomioida sähkökäyttöjen komponenttien valinnassa.

Kiitettävä (4): Sinulla on tieto ja ymmärrys sähkötekniikan luonnontieteellisistä ja matemaattisista periaatteista ja osaat itsenäisesti soveltaa eri menetelmiä sähköteknisiin ongelmiin. Hallitset sähkökäyttöjen perusteet ja osaat soveltaa tietoa sähkökäyttöjen komponenttien valinnassa.
