Objective

1st study year:

The students know how to write one and several voice textures in styles from Gregorian Chant to the Classical style, both homophonically and contrapunctally.

2nd study year:

The students know how to write in popular music notations: master-layout, lead-sheet, parts, partiture.

Content

1st study year:

Western Music's harmonic and counterpoint structures, as well as melody harmonisation. There is a three part division: a) Old music counterpoint, b) Harmonisation and c) Baroque counterpoint or classical composition forms.

2nd study year:

Popular music transcription. Approximately 14 different pieces to be transcribed following given directions.

Qualifications

1st study year:

The students command the main concepts of Western Music' harmony and melody as well as the basics of voice leading. Approved entrance examination or corresponding optional basic studies.

2nd study year:

The students command the basics of popular music notation and short hand symbols. He is familiar with the structures found in pop music and jazz, their functional harmony and modes.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Written tests and separately assigned sample compositions and transcriptions.
