Objective

The students are familiar with group guidance and, according to their choice, with diverse group age guidance or with that of students of diverse cultural background.

Content

The principles of guidance of diverse groups. In-depth view, according to orientation, of orchestral, choir and chamber music ensembles guidance, or of groups formed according to age, e.g. early music education/instrument groups, senior groups. Features of diverse students (e.g. difficulties in learning) and multi-cultural groups.

Qualifications

The students know the main teaching methods and materials in their own instrument and are capable of contributing to their development and adaptation. They are familiar with teaching and with a teacher's work. They have been drilled in learning guidance and evaluation use in practical teaching work, and are capable of working as members in co-operative work. They evaluate their own abilities and those of their peers in a constructive and realistic manner, and use portfolio as a tool in learning and evaluation.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Portfolio evaluation: by the teacher and other teachers following the teaching practice, peer-evaluation and self-evaluation. The students completing the course have formed for themselves a substantiated understanding of instrumental teaching's challenges, goals and work methods. They are able to guide students on a long range basis. They are able to bring up in an orderly manner their own points of view as well as those of the sources and those based on the teaching practice experience about the instrumental teaching's main features and about their own present ability as group leaders.
