Care of the Mother and Family During Childbirth (5cr)

Objective

The students know the progress of childbirth and obstetric care interventions. They have the competence to observe the progress of a labour and the condition of the mother and the baby, also knowing potential disorders in them. They have an empowering and family-centred approach to the care of women in labour as well as their families. They understand the significance of the experience of labour for the wellbeing of the woman, the baby and the family, and recognise their own responsibility in the formation of the experience.

Content

The progress of a normal and abnormal childbirth, treatment of labour pain, care in normal and abnormal childbirth, obstetric care interventions. The care event of the mother in labour and of the family, the monitoring and care of a healthy newborn.

Qualifications

The professional studies of the Degree Programme in Nursing 114 cr.
