Multicultural Issues in Social and Health Care (3op)

Osaamistavoitteet

The students can recognise the culturally bound aspects of their thinking, cultural values and ideologies, and understand different ways of life, as well as conceptions on health and illness. They have developed a readiness to encounter clients/patients with diverse cultural backgrounds. They are familiar with the practices of health and social care in various cultures.

The values and ideologies forming cultures. The significance of cultural diversity for cultural encounters. The multi-culturalisation of Finnish society. Encountering a client/patient coming from a different culture.
Ideas on health and illness and related practices in different cultures.

Esitietovaatimukset

The students have the basic skills needed to encounter social and health care clients/patients.
