Objective

The object of the course:
The objective is to reach language skills corresponding to level A2.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

After completing this course, you can understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, studies, and leisure. You can understand simple texts on familiar topics.

You can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where Spanish is spoken. You can briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans. You can write simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest.

Course competences:
The course prepares and equips you to act and work in an international and multicultural environment.

The learning objectives of the course:
You can apply basic language skills in routine communication situations. You can understand the main points of clear speech and short texts on topics that are familiar to you. You can write a short text on a familiar topic. You understand cultural differences between your home country and Hispanic countries. 

Starting level: A1.2-A2. Objective: A2-B1 (according to CEFR)

Content

Pronunciation.

Communication: familiar situations, for example describing one’s own background and life, leisure, travel, studies and student exchange, practise, work, plans, giving opinions.

Grammar: past tenses, namely the present perfect, preterite, imperfect and pluperfect.

Reading and listening comprehension: study-, leisure- and work-related texts, audios, and videos.

Cultural awareness: communication culture, customs, and traditions of the Spanish-speaking world, especially in Spain.

Qualifications

Attained proficiency level A1.2 – A2.1 as per the European Framework of Reference (CEFR) https://europa.eu/europass/en/common-european-framework-reference-language-skills.

For example, completion of Spanish for beginners 1 and 2 course (altogether 10 ECTS) or high school B3 language courses 1-4, or equivalent proficiency and understanding.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Pass:
You demonstrate a basic command of the language in relation to the course contents and objectives. You can successfully apply your language skills in routine speaking situations, although there may be frequent pauses in speech. You understand the main points of clear speech and short texts on familiar topics. You can write a short text on a familiar topic. You may still have some faltering with pronunciation, vocabulary, and language structures. 

You complete the assignments independently and as scheduled, and they fulfill most requirements. You participate in the lessons frequently and actively.

Fail:
The level of competence does not reach the minimum requirements, or the assignments and exams of the course have not been successfully completed. 

NB! If you need a numerical grade (1 - 5), it can be obtained on a separate certificate. The need for a numerical assessment must be communicated to the teacher at the beginning of the course. After the first assessed assignment or test, it is no longer possible to change the grading scale from pass-fail to a numerical scale.

Further information

Ideal for individuals with a foundational understanding of Spanish (level A1.2 – A2.1 of The Common European Reference for Languages) seeking to further their Spanish language education.

Suitable also to the students who desire to refresh their previous knowledge and Spanish skills gained, for example, at high school.
