Objective
To understand basic static problems, to solve forces and moments in two-dimensional systems, to understand simple trusses, the idea of point load and distributed load. To understand basic loadings in the mechanics of materials, how to measure materials so that they can stand loads.
Content
Statics: Equilibrium of rigid bodies in two-dimensional systems, analysis of two-dimensional structures, forces in beams and cables, shear and bending moment in a beam, shear and bending moment diagrams, friction, coefficient of static and kinetic friction. Strength of materials: Normal stress in axial loading, shearing stress, bearing stress, factor of safety, problems involving temperature changes, torsional strength, bending
