Objective

After completing this course, you will be able to apply various agricultural tools and software from different perspectives of arable farming sustainability towards your production goals. You will use the software to scale and optimize arable farming processes. For example, you will examine labor input, profitability of farming, machine costs, the impact of machines on soil structure, and ways to make arable farming more efficient.

EUR-ACE: Knowledge and understanding
knowledge and understanding of applicable analysis, design, and research/development techniques and methods, as well as their limitations, in your own field of specialization.
EUR-ACE: Applying technology to practice
ability to identify, formulate and solve complex problems, being able to select and have practical skills to apply established analytical, computational and experimental techniques and methods that are appropriate to the situation
ability to utilize an understanding of the future requirements of one's own field in design and development
EUR-ACE: Interdisciplinary competence
awareness of the social, occupational health and safety, economic and industrial impacts of engineering practice and an understanding of the constraints they impose
EUR-ACE: Communication and teamwork
ability to communicate information, ideas, problems and solutions effectively within the engineering community

Content

Field cultivation labor input, labor and machinery costs, impact of alternative cultivation methods on the risk of field soil compaction and cultivation efficiency.

Qualifications

Basic knowledge of Finnish crop production, its sustainability, production inputs, cultivation practices and cultivation technology, as well as field cultivation processes and material flows.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

You will be able to use various agricultural tools and software to assess the sustainability of arable farming. You will understand which factors affect arable farming processes and how they can be dimensioned and optimized.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

You will be able to apply and use various agricultural tools and software to assess the sustainability of arable farming and analyze the results you obtain. You will apply different arable farming elements when sizing and optimizing arable farming processes towards a more sustainable outcome.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

You can apply and use various agricultural tools and software to assess the sustainability of arable farming and analyze the results in a variety of ways, presenting development proposals. You apply assessments to different arable farming components when sizing and optimizing arable farming processes towards a more sustainable outcome.
