Objective
The students understand the significance of control systems in modern network-based business operations. The students know the features and application areas of various control systems.  The students understand how the systems are inter-connected and how the carriage of goods is managed in network-based business operations.  The students are able to utilize different transport systems and they recognize the opportunities they offer on strategic, tactical and operative levels.

Lectures on  
 -	Planning levels
 -	Considerations concerning the providers and the end-users  of transportation services 
 -	General features of operations control systems 
 -	Features and classification of planning systems
 -	Geographical Information System (GIS)
 -	GPS and information transfer systems
 -	Transport equipment management system and management of the driver resources
 -	Measurement and definition of the amount of transport equipment in the programs
 Use of the programs 
 -	MapInfor, SAP, the operations control system of the transportation provider, Pro-Opt, “Suomi Plus” Route Map, "What's Best” optimization program or equivalent, ED Simulation Program, GPS, database management program, Dynafleet or equivalent
 If possible, a visit to a transportation company
 GPS  and data transfer and equipment management laboratory

Principles of building information systems, office applications, mathematics, methods of operational research, basics of logistics

 o	The development of the student’s skills has been very good, and he/she has performed the practical work and assignments in a skilful manner and using good methods, applying the properties of the programmes in a laudable way.  Participation in the learning situations has been active.  The student has a very good understanding of the theoretical background.
 o	Good - Very Good (3-4)
 o	The development of the student’s skills has been good, and he/she has performed the practical work and assignments  well, using a sufficient variety of methods and applying the properties of the programmes well.   Participation in the learning situations has been active.  The student has a good understanding of the theoretical background.  
 o	Sufficient - Satisfactory (1 - 2)
 o	The development of the student’s skills has been satisfactory, and he/she has performed the practical work and assignments in a satisfactory way, using a sufficient variety of methods and applying the properties of the programmes in a satisfactory way.  Participation in the learning situations has been insufficient.  The student has a satisfactory understanding of the theoretical background.
