Objective

The students understand the significance of information systems as enablers of development in business. They can identify the competence areas and technical components related to the systems and understand how the systems function and what their possibilities and limitations are. The learners are able to work as logistics professionals in information system development tasks and to supervise design and commissioning projects of telematic systems. They know the fields of application of different identification and positioning systems and are able to assess their suitability for different environments. They are able to work in logistics system control tasks utilising telematic techniques. They are able to describe the structure of control systems in modern networked business. They are capable of designing, managing, analysing and developing logistics control in customary business entities and company networks.

The students understand the significance of control systems in modern networked business. They can identify the properties and application areas of different control systems, understanding how the systems are connected with each other and how supply chains are managed in networked business.

Content

Design of telematic systems, control systems, the information systems of logistic operations. Simulation of operations, operations management, software design, data communications, databases and the basics of information system acquisition, identification systems, positioning systems, project skills and the introduction of telematic systems.
Enterprise resource planning ERP. Design software. Geographical information systems.

Qualifications

The students master the basics of the most common information and control systems applied in logistic operations.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Assessment is based on the following criteria: 1) active class participation; 2) team work skills and ability to present results in writing and orally; 3) level of the written output of the independent study unit. Successful completion 44% of total points, excellent 90% of total points
