Communication Skills (3cr)

Objective

The students are able to act skilfully and expediently in professional communication and interaction situations. They are able to take into account the demands of the recipient, the situation and the field, and communicate in an organized, convincing and comprehensible way. They are able and willing to develop their Finnish and communication skills as part of their professional skills.

Content

Workplace-oriented group communication (the principles of group communication; discussion, listening and argumentation skills; procedures and documents related to common workplace discussions; feedback, self-assessment and peer assessment)
Expert communication (goal-oriented development of one’s own communicative competence, oral and written text types − especially factual style reporting; text processing, the significance of communication culture, non-verbal communication).

Qualifications

The basics of communication, successfully completed upper secondary school syllabus or equivalent knowledge and skills.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Assessment methods: Self-assessment, peer assessment, teacher assessment.
Items of assessment: active participation, exercises and/or exam.
