Objective

Students will know basic principles of film lighting. Students are familiar with some terminology related to film lighting. Students can implement three-point lighting for one person and are familiar with alternative lighting solutions. Students can justify the decisions they have made technically and expressively.

Content

The course deals with character lighting in audiovisual production.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student completes the tasks satisfactorily. The student knows the basic principles of lighting and the terminology related to lighting. They are able to implement three-point lighting and are also aware of alternative solutions to it.

The student completes the tasks successfully. They know the basic principles of lighting and the essential terminology. The student is able to implement three-point lighting and recognise alternative solutions to it. They can justify their decisions both technically and expressively.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student completes the tasks well. They know the basic principles of lighting and the essential terminology, and are able to apply them. The student knows how to implement three-point lighting and can implement an alternative solution to it. They are able to justify and reflect on the solutions they have made both in terms of content and technical expression.

The course is designed for those who have little experience in character or film lighting, but who, for example, produce video material as part of their work. The course is also suitable for non-professionals and those who want to update their knowledge on the subject. The course introduces the practices of lighting, the theory behind them, and various lighting examples.
