Objective

Upon completing the course, the student: Recognises and can use the fundamental concepts of film (shot, scene, shot sizes). Understands the significance of shot sizes and camera angles in storytelling. Masters the principles of continuity and editing. Can apply camera placement and the 180° rule in the implementation of a scene. Recognises framing structures (closed vs. open framing) and their effects.

Basic concepts and terminology of film Image sizes and their significance Principles of continuity and types of cuts Structure of a scene: framing, shot-reverse shot pairs, insert Camera placement and the line of action (180° rule) Editing rules and practical applications

Qualifications

No prior expertise is required. An interest in films and storytelling is sufficient.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student demonstrates a command of the key concepts and rules and is able to apply them in exercises and examinations.
