    Purpose of the course
    In this course you learn to identify and respond to the patient's needs through fundamental nursing interventions.

    You recognize the basic needs of patients and respond through basic nursing interventions to these needs in a safe manner using evidence-based practice. You know the basic principles of ergonomics and aseptics. You know the basics of professional interaction with patients. You know the basics of first aid.

    Principles of aseptics in nursing
    Basic hygiene
    Monitoring of vital signs
    Monitoring of urinary and bowel elimination
    Nutritional care and fluid balance
    Basic laboratory tests
    Administering of injections
    Ensuring tissue viability and integrity
    Ethical principles of nursing as part of professional interaction with patients

    You know the patients' basic needs and can respond with relevant nursing interventions, while taking into account patient safety. You know the principles of ergonomics. You know the basic principles of aseptics as part of nursing. You know the basics of a professional encounter. You know how to deliver basic first aid.

    You recognize the patients' basic needs and can respond with relevant nursing interventions, while taking into account patient safety. You know the principles of ergonomics. You understand the basic principles of aseptics as part of nursing. You understand the basics of a professional encounter. You know how to deliver basic first aid.
    Assessment criteria - grade 3 and 4
    Good 3
    You understand and respond to patients' basic needs using relevant nursing interventions, while taking into account patient safety. You understand the basic principles of ergonomics and aseptics as part of nursing. You understand the basics of a professional encounter. You know how to deliver basic first aid.

    Very good 4
    You have a good understanding of the patients' basic needs and are able to respond to them using relevant nursing interventions, while taking into account patient safety. You are able to reason the interventions with the help of evidence. You understand the principles of ergonomics as part of patient safety and occupational safety. You understand the basic principles of asepsis as part of nursing. You can use the basics of professional encounter. You know how to deliver basic first aid.
    Assessment criteria - grade 5
    Excellent 5
    You have a broad understanding of the patient's basic needs and can reasonably respond to them by analysing patient's individual situation. You can offer extensive justifications for the interventions with the help of evidence.. You understand the principles of ergonomics and are able to apply them. You understand the basic principles of asepsis as part of nursing. You are able to apply ethical principles in nursing and understand their importance as part of professional encounters. You know how to deliver basic first aid.
