    Learning outcomes of the course
    Purpose:
    Materials management can have a significant impact on a company's profit, logistics efficiency and customer service. In global supply chains and e-commerce, the importance of material management components, such as demand forecasting, inventory level management, selecting production strategy and planning capacity, is becoming increasingly important. In this course you will learn how to plan and manage material flows. After completing this course, you will understand the basic principles, key concepts and theories of material management and their implications for business.

    Learning outcomes:
    - You will understand the importance of demand forecasting in business and the most common methods of forecasting.
    - You will understand the basics and importance of product data management and bill of materials in business point of view.
    - You will understand how material flows and inventory levels can be managed and controlled. You understand how to minimize costs of material flow and inventory can be minimize.
    - You will understand the basic principles of production control management as well as the different production strategies and their importance for business.
    - You will understand how machine, space and personnel capacity is can be determined and understand the basic principles of capacity management.

    Assessment criteria
    Assessment criteria - grade 1 and 2
    1: Student has gained knowledge at all the subjects described in the learning outcomes.
    2: Student has gained knowledge at all the subjects described in the learning outcomes and is able to can utilize this knowledge.
    Assessment criteria - grade 3 and 4
    3: Student understands all the subjects described in the learning outcomes and is able to apply the skills one has learned.
    4: Student has attained an excellent level in almost all the subjects described in the learning outcomes and is able to apply the skills one has learned.
    Assessment criteria - grade 5
    5: The student has attained an excellent level in all subjects described in the learning outcomes and is able to apply the skills one has learned.

    Planned learning activities, teaching methods and guidance

    This is a virtual nonstop course. Student may enroll to the course during 1.8.-31.5. There are three (3) different time periods inside the nonstop course:

    - Course studied by 10.12.

    - Course studied by 31.5.

    - Course studied by 31.7.

    Student chooses the time period in the virtual study environment. Time period should be selected based on students enrollment and study right time. Student can create own time schedule for the assignments and tasks within the selected time period.

    If the virtual study environment has not opened for you within 2 weeks after enrollment, please contact the course teacher.

    The calculated workload is the number of credits times 27 hours.
    In the 5 credit course, the workload is 135h.
