Objective

The purpose of the course

You will learn the basics of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics which are required to understand different flow and heat transfer phenomena. In addition, you will learn logical problem solving.

Eur-ACE competences

Knowledge and understanding: You obtain the basic knowledge of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics for the field of engineering.
Multidisciplinary competences: You are able to apply the physical problem solving strategies in other fields of interest.
Communication and team-working: You will learn to communicate technical information, ideas and solutions in the engineering community.

Learning outcome

After completing this course you are able to identify the basic principles of the fluid mechanics, the effect of the temperature and the basics of heat transfer mechanisms.

Content

The course consists of the following themes

Density, pressure, basics of hydraulics, hydrostatic pressure, buoyancy, surface tension, volume flow, mass flow, continuity equation, Bernoulli equation, viscosity, temperature, thermal expansion, thermal stress, heat, specific heat, phase changes, thermal conduction, convection, thermal radiation, the basics of equations of state and air humidity.
