    Course purpose
    In this course you will learn the basic concepts of administration and management, the various models of management, and the tools for administration and leadership in the health care and social services. The course will enhance your capabilities for management and leadership.

    Learning outcomes
    After completing this study module, you will identify the characteristics of leadership and management, manage the overall picture of leadership development, and you have a capacity to apply the features of newer leadership skills in to the practice.

    You will recognize the different roles of management and leadership and their importance for organizations in the field of health care and social services. You understand the importance of theoretical and research-based knowledge in explaining organizational behavior and utilize research- or evidence-based knowledge to practical situations.

    You understand the differences between different management models and recognize how social and health organizations accomplish their goals, how they organize their tasks, and how they interact with other public actors

    You are able to develop work community and understand the diversity and complexity of leadership and management tools. You master some management and leadership tools and enhance them in your development activities.

    How public administration is managed and what choices public sector organizations have to organize their tasks
    Organizational behavior and managerial roles and responsibilities within the work community
    Theoretical and practical foundations of management and administration as well as organizations
    Interfaces and differences between governance and management
    The most important concepts, areas and tools of management competence
    Diversifying environment and diversity management.
    New management mindset and future work community development
    Self-guided organizations and models
    The future role of the leader and the diverse work communities
    What kind of change management tools and approaches managers have at its disposal

    Student describes management thinking based on theoretical knowledge base The student recognizes changes in the field of health care and social services and he or she knows some tools of management.

    Satisfactory 2
    The student understands the knowledge base of management thinking from the point of view of practice. The student describes the changes in the health care and social services environment and is able to report their effects and classify different management tools.
    Assessment criteria - grade 3 and 4
    Good 3
    The student applies the management knowledge base to practical management activities. The student recognizes changes in the health care and social services environment and highlights their impact on multidisciplinary and diverse cooperation.He or she uses different management tools and is able to explain their significance for the development of work communities.

    Very good 4
    The student analyzes practical management by utilizing the research- or evidence-based knowledge of management. The student demonstrates changes in the health care and social services environment and compare impact on multidisciplinary and diverse cooperation. The student analyzes different management tools and their significance for the development of work communities.

    Excellent 5
    Student utilizes research- or evidence-based knowledge to develop practical activities and their own leadership. He or she critically assesses the change in the business environment and is able to utilize new management thinking and tools for leadership in multidisciplinary and diverse cooperation. The student is able to evaluate and use critically different management tools and understand their importance in the development of work communities.
