Objective
Sustainability & responsibility is much more than just sorting your trashes and taking them out to the right bins. Sustainable sourcing and production methods througout the supply chain are a must nowadays and corporate responsibility is the basic prerequisite for companies to exist. On this course you will learn how globally acknowledged responsibility initiatives, e.g. UN Global Compact, affect on corporate governance.
Course Competencies:
Competences to be promoted and assessed in this course include analysing skills, ability to consult and apply norms and codes related to sustainability and responsibility, awareness of societal, health and safety, environmental, economic and industrial implications and responsibility in decision making.
Learning outcomes in the course:
You will learn the significance of responsibility aspects in business. You know how to evaluate sustainability reporting and how environmental, financial and social responsibility are linked into business processes, logistics and strategic management of the companies. You acquire basic understanding of standards and legistlation related to sustainability and responsibility.

In addition to the above, the student can describe the topics covered in the course systematically and knows how to apply them.

In addition to the above, the student demonstrates the ability to justify the effects of different solutions and to make informed choices between options.

Tavoitteet
Kestävä kehitys ja vastuullisuus ovat paljon muutakin kuin vain roskien lajittelua ja viemistä oikeisiin roskakoreihin. Kestävät hankinta- ja tuotantomenetelmät läpi koko toimitusketjun ovat nykyään välttämättömiä ja yritysvastuu on yritysten olemassaolon perusedellytys. Tällä kurssilla opit, kuinka kansainväliset vastuullisuusaloitteet, kuten YK:n Global Compact, vaikuttavat yritysten toimintaan.
Kurssin kompetenssit:
Tällä kurssilla edistettäviä ja arvioitavia kompetensseja ovat analysointitaidot, kyky kuulla ja soveltaa kestävään kehitykseen ja vastuullisuuteen liittyviä normeja ja koodeja, tietoisuus yhteiskunnallisista, terveydellisistä ja turvallisista, ympäristöllisistä, taloudellisista ja teollisista vaikutuksista sekä vastuullisuudesta päätöksenteossa.

Opit vastuullisuusnäkökohtien merkityksen liiketoiminnassa. Opintojakso sisältää 2 lähiopetuspäivää sekä 2 verkkotapaamisen erillisen suunnitelman mukaisesti. Opiskelija valitsee oman suoritustapansa kurssin alkaessa.
Lähiopetuspäivät pidetään Helsingissä ja verkkotapaaminen zoom-verkkoympäristössä.
Opintojaksolle kuuluu lisäksi itseopiskelua verkossa sekä oppimistehtävät.
Materiaali löytyy verkkotyötilassa itsenäiseen opiskeluun.

Teaching methods
For full-time students completion of the course includes contact lessons at campus, learning assignments and a more extensive project work. Some of the learning assignments are done individually, some in small groups, some require independent work.
Multi-modal students and other online learners (e.g. open university) study online. For specified student groups studying online, the course is implemented virtually, which includes self-study (independent learning tasks or group learning tasks).
The assignments are described in more detail in the course workspace.
The first assignment on this course is mandatory for all students and must be completed within 3 weeks from the beginning of the course. Students that have not completed this first assignment, will be removed from the course.
The implementation combines both Finnish and English curriculum students, thus used language is entirely in English.

Teaching methods
The course is a 100% independent online implementation that includes learning assignments and a more extensive project work. Grouping into small groups is required. Grouping is done in an online meeting at the beginning of the course. The timing for this meeting is announced at the beginning of the course. Attendance on this online meeting is not mandatory but will be of significant help in getting started with the course.
Teaching is based on lecture and instructional videos, learning assignments, joint dialogue between students and the teacher in the course's peer support / discussion forum.
The tasks are described in more detail in the course workspace. Assignments are either individual assignments or group assignments (described in the assignment) and their recommended return dates will be confirmed as the course progresses.

Competences to be promoted and assessed in this course include analysing skills, ability to consult and apply norms and codes related to sustainability and responsibility, awareness of societal, health and safety, environmental, economic and industrial implications and responsibility in decision making.

You know how to evaluate sustainability reporting and how environmental, financial and social responsibility are linked into business processes, logistics and strategic management of the companies. Teaching methods
Completion of the course includes contact lessons at campus, learning assignments and a more extensive project work.
Some of the learning assignments are done in small groups under the guidance of a teacher, either on campus or remotely; other tasks require independent work.
The tasks are described in more detail in the course workspace. Assignments are either individual assignments or group assignments (stated in the assignment) and their return dates will be confirmed as the course progresses.
