Objective

Purpose of the Course
In this course, you will learn to support the emotional and safety skills, as well as digital safety skills, of children and youth. You will also increase your awareness of sexual harassment, bullying, relationship and honor-related violence, and digital violence, along with their prevention.

- Health Promotion Competence: Support clients/patients in recognizing their own resources and empowerment.

Course Learning Objectives
After completing this course, you will understand the importance of emotional and safety skills, as well as digital safety skills, in promoting the well-being of children and youth. You will be able to promote and support the emotional and safety skills of children and youth, including digital safety skills. Additionally, you will understand the significance of friendship and relationship skills in the lives of children and youth and recognize various forms of harassment and violence, such as bullying, relationship violence, honor-related violence, and digital violence.

Content

Come and enhance your skills in emotional and safety skills, as well as digital safety skills. This course provides you with knowledge and understanding of how to support the safe growth and development of children and youth from the perspective of emotional and safety skills, as well as digital safety skills. In this timely course, you will explore the following themes:
- Emotional and safety skills, as well as digital safety skills
- Friendship and relationship skills
- Sexual harassment
- Bullying, relationship violence, honor-related violence, digital violence

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Demonstrates the ability to explain the importance of emotional and safety skills, including digital safety skills, in promoting the well-being of children and youth. Effectively promotes and supports the emotional and safety skills of children and youth, taking into account digital safety skills. Shows an understanding of the significance of friendship and relationship skills in the lives of children and youth. Recognizes various forms of harassment and violence, such as bullying, relationship violence, honor-related violence, and digital violence.

Time and location

The course will be conducted as a non-stop implementation during the spring semester of 2025 in the Moodle online learning environment of Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences. The course can be completed independently, according to one’s own schedule, during the course implementation period.

The material available in the Moodle online learning environment

Teaching methods

The course will be conducted entirely online in the Moodle online learning environment of JAMK University of Applied Sciences.

The student will independently familiarize themselves with the course material (written material, video recordings, and podcasts).

During the course, the student will complete independent assignments.

The total workload for the course is 81 hours (27 hours x 3 credits = 81 hours)
Orientation to the course: 2 hours
Familiarization with learning materials (written materials, video recordings, videos, podcasts): 35 hours
Completing learning assignments (written tasks, online discussions): 34 hours
Assessment/feedback: self-assessment, peer feedback, course feedback: 10 hours
