Objective
The course aims at expanding the student's tourism expertise with the basics of responsible tourism and triggering curiosity for further examination of the topic.
By the end of the course, the student will know:
-what responsible tourism is and why it is important
-what does responsibility mean in practice both on company and destination level
-how to enhance responsibility in tourism
-what responsibility communication is and why it is important
-how to effectively communicate the responsible actions of an organization’s operations to the customers and other stakeholders in a suitable way and in the relevant channels
-how to set goals for one's own responsibility communication and monitor their implementation
In addition, the student will draw their future responsible tourism road map that can be pursued during further studies and/or career.
Content
There are three modules:
-Introduction to Responsible Tourism (2 ECTS)
-Responsibility Communication in Tourism (2 ECTS)
-Reflection and Evaluation of Responsible Tourism Knowledge, Goals, and Interests (1 ECTS) - a frame module of the course, containing tasks and feedback
Qualifications
The course is intended for Bachelor's degree students and it requires basic understanding of tourism and hospitality.
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
The successful completion of the course requires completing all single assignments which are subject of automatic grading and teacher's review. Furthermore, by competing the assignments of the course, the student should provide indication for achieving the learning outcomes of the course, namely the student:
-knows what responsible tourism is and why it is important
-knows what does responsibility mean in practice both on company and destination level
-knows how to enhance responsibility in tourism
-knows what responsibility communication is and why it is important
-knows how to effectively communicate the responsible actions of an organization’s operations to the customers and other stakeholders in a suitable way and in the relevant channels
-knows how to set goals for one's own responsibility communication and monitor their implementation
-has drawn their own future responsible tourism road map that can be pursued during further studies and/or career.

Teaching methods
The course is based on fully independent online studying at the student's own pace within the given implementation period. It includes video lectures and lecture presentations, professional online sources and tools, academic articles, cases, interactive tasks and quizzes, exams, analytical and reflective essays, self-assessment.

Student workload
135 hours of learning in total (learning materials + assignments). Indicative time for completion is provided for each task in the course work space.

Further information
The majority of assignments are automatically assessed in accordance with the learning outcomes. The teacher will review and confirm the overall performance before finally assessing the course. The student will receive feedback from the teacher and the final assessment of the course (pass/fail) in relation to the last reflection task of the course.
