5) The students understand standard, spoken Finnish on recurrent themes related to school, work and leisure. They are able to find out key issues for example in the news. The students can cope with informal discussions in general everyday situations. They are able to understand brief texts on familiar topics, and they are able to write a fluent and understandable text on a topic of personal interest. The students can manage with simple writing tasks in everyday life.
4) The students understand the main parts of standard, spoken Finnish dealing with recurrent themes related to school, work or leisure. They are able to work out the key topics for example in the news. The students can cope with informal discussions in general everyday situations. They are able to understand brief texts on familiar topics with the help of learning aids. They are able to write an understandable and fairly fluent text on a topic of personal interest. The students can manage with simple writing tasks in everyday life.
3) The students understand discussions on familiar topics when standard Finnish and ordinary vocabulary are used. They can take part in conversations on familiar topics of personal importance. The students are able to understand simple texts with the help of a dictionary. The students can write a brief description of a topic related to their own life. They can manage with the most usual writing tasks of everyday life.
2) The students understand conversations on familiar topics when simple, standard Finnish with typical vocabulary is used. They can to some extent participate in the discussion concerning topics of personal importance. The students are able to retrieve information from relatively simple texts with the help of a dictionary. They can compose a record-style description of their own life. The students can manage with the most ordinary writing tasks of everyday life.
