Objectives
You will learn the basics and calculation of power transmission gear boxes and gear wheels. You will learn basic principles and how to calculate basic connections between machine parts, e.g. screw joints and welding joints.
Investigations and information retrieval:
You can analyze and solve technical challenges.
Engineering practice:
You can calculate and select the most common machine components and joints.
Content
Selected machine components which are commonly used in mechanical engineering.
- design of shafts and shaft connections.
- design of gear transmissions and gear wheels
- design of bolted and welded joints
Learning materials and recommended literature
Handouts, Shigley, Mechanical Engineering Design. McGraw-Hill 2003.
Teaching methods
Contact lessons consists of the theory of the course and also example calculation cases. There are also calculation exercises which means self learning and home work based work.
Exam dates and retake possibilities
There are three small exams during the course. There is also alternative way to replace the last small exam by exam which consists of the whole course. There are also two resits after that based on JAMK orders.
Student workload
Lectures 41 h.
Calculation exercises self-reliant work 40 h.
Total 81 h.
Content scheduling
There are theory based contact lessons during the whole course which are based on the topics of the course. There are also calculation examples during lessons. There are self learning calculation tasks which are based on theory lesson.
