Tavoitteet
This course introduces students to aspects related to conflict management, with a particular focus on intrapersonal, interpersonal, within group and between group contexts. Emphasis is made on skills development through simulation and other practices.
IBCOM Communication Skills: You have developed new approaches to communicating with others in conflict scenarios. Some of your newly developed skills will address cultural aspects of human relations.
IBCOL Intercultural Collaboration Skills: You are able to develop and demonstrate conflict resolution skills in international contexts.
IBETH Ethical Conduct: You embrace ethical principles in dealing with others, as exampled by the Principles for Responsible Management Education (UNPRME) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.
IBPER Skills for Personal Career Development. You are able to reflect upon your experiences to deepen personal and professional learning, and to embrace those learnings to support your personal and professional development.
IBCRI Critical Thinking: You are able to critically review and analyze information available from academic and professional business sources. You are able to observe, interpret and describe social phenomena associated with human interactions, conflict management and business management in international contexts.
Sisältö
The student becomes familiar with theories pertaining to conflict management in intrapersonal, interpersonal, within group, and between group perspectives. Students apply conflict resolution approaches using Marshall Rosenberg's Nonviolent Communication approach.The course utilizes appropriate texts and media, psychometric instruments, simulations and individual practice to develop knowledge and expertise pertaining to conflict management.

Materials will be provided by the lecturer and guests, and students will utilize desk research methods to gather materials on their own.
Opetusmenetelmät
Dialogic pedagogy will be the principal teaching theory employed. The teachers will introduce theory and practices through which the students will engage themselves and engage with others to explore phenomena and experiences related to conflict. Most of the content will focus on intrapersonal, interpersonal, group, and between group conflict scenarios.

Occasional guest teachers may be introduced from outside of Finland.

Assessment will based on a written major task assignment, minor tasks, and attendance.

A grade of 3 indicates an average level of attendance and task completion.

A grade of 5 demonstrates strong attendance and participation, and very good responsiveness to tasks.

Grades range from 0 (fail) to 5 (excellent) according to the standard JAMK system.

HIBC3100 Intercultural Communication in Business Contexts or an equivalent is strongly recommended.
Lisätiedot
The assessment will be based on attendance and the grading of weekly minor tasks. The intended learning outcomes of the course require that the student engage earnestly with the content and activities in the classroom. Reflective learning assessment approaches to task grading will be employed.
