Objective

The student is able to:
•recognize the process of aging and its impact on the society.
•identify common health and functional problems that are threats to older adults well-being
•utilize valid and reliable age-specific assessment tools and evidence-based interventions to assess and promote the health and functional ability of older adults.
.understands ICF framework as a tool in evaluation and observance of clients functional ability and participation

•Gerontological nursing as a concept, its objectives, settings and ethical questions
.the aging process, factors contributing to healthy aging
.unique aspects of disease presentation and management in older adults (geriatric syndrome)
•Health and functional ability of older adults
•The characteristics of older adults
•Behavioral symptoms among the elderly with memory disorders

Excellent (5):
The student identifies normal aging-related changes and distinguishes them from pathological ones. She/he recognizes their impact on nursing of older adults, and describes how the aging process correlates with the functional ability. She/he identifies common health and functional problems and threats of older adults and applies valid and reliable assessments tools and interventions. He/she recognizes the nurse`s responsibility and role and the benefits of multi-professional teams. The student analyzes and discusses critically the judgments chosen by him/her utilizing extensive, relevant and new evidence-based gerontological nursing and multidisciplinary knowledge. The student discusses ethical and legal questions that arise in care of older adults and gives development ideas.

Very good (4):

He/she identifies common health and functional problems and threats of older adults and lists assessments tools and interventions. She/he describes the role of nurses in care of older adults. The student describes and discusses the judgments chosen by him/her utilizing basic knowledge of gerontological nursing based on textbooks.

Adequate (1):
The student identifies aging-related changes and recognizes its impact on nursing of older adults. He/she identifies common health and functional problems and threats of older adults and lists few assessments tools and interventions. He/she names the role of nurses in care of older adults. The student describes the judgments chosen by him/her utilizing the basic knowledge of gerontological nursing based on textbooks.
Fail: The student does not achieve the course objectives.
