Purpose of the course
After completing the course, you will master the basics and methods of assessing rehabilitation needs and understand the significance of assessing rehabilitation needs as a part of the rehabilitation process.

Intended learning of the course
You can name factors that cause rehabilitation needs at the level of individuals, communities and the society and assess the needs, expectations and rehabilitation opportunities of different clients. You can describe factors affecting the functional capacity of different clients and use appropriate methods for assessing functional capacity and work ability based on evidence and good operating practices. You know how to utilise the ICF framework and use ICF tools when assessing and documenting the overall situation of the rehabilitees as well as their need and opportunities for rehabilitation. You know the principles of recording and know how to document work ability and functional capacity appropriately. You can create individual goals according to the SMART principle on the My Goals (GAS) form.

Content

Concepts of functional capacity, work ability, rehabilitation needs and service needs. Multiprofessional operating environments for the need for rehabilitation and services as well as functional capacity limitations and other factors causing the need for rehabilitation. The significance of assessing the rehabilitation needs as a part of the rehabilitation process. Multiprofessional assessment of the overall situation of different clients. ICF framework and tools. Assessment methods and indicators of functional capacity and work ability, for example, the TOIMIA database indicators. The principles of recording. Appropriate documentation of the functional capacity and work ability of the client and their overall situation. Principles for setting rehabilitation goals, My goals (GAS) form.
