Objectives

Good usability and ergonomics are fundamental qualities of machines and devices. After Usability and ergonomics course you will understand the basics of usability and ergonomics and you are able to take into consideration the user's physical and mental qualities in designing the work environment, tasks, methods, and products. You can apply courses knowledge and the skills to design work.

Engineering practice:
You are able to apply established research methods to solve practical problems.

Multidisciplinary competences: You understand the importance of usability and ergonomics in organizations.

Communication and team-working:
You know how to work in international teams.

Content

The basics of the user-centred design process, usability, usability technology, and ergonomics as parts of the design process.

Evaluation criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

Adequate (1): You identify the basic knowledge and terminology but can only sufficiently apply them to simple usability and ergonomics development tasks. You are able to complete the assessment tasks of the usability and ergonomics, but you have difficulties in managing basic methods.

Satisfactory (2): You know the most common issues related to usability assessment and ergonomics during the course and understand their purpose and methods. You are able to complete the assessment tasks of the usability and ergonomics, but you have difficulties in managing more demanding methods.

Evaluation criteria, good (3-4)

Good (3): You are familiar with the most common methods and issues related to usability assessment and ergonomics during the course, and you will understand their purpose. You are able to complete the course assignments, and you are also able to master more demanding methods discussed during the course.

Very good (4): You are familiar with the most of the methods and issues related to usability assessment and ergonomics during the course, and you will understand their purpose. You are able to complete the course assignments, and you are also able to master more demanding methods discussed during the course and understand the theory behind them.

Excellent (5): You are familiar with the most of the methods and issues related to usability assessment and ergonomics during the course, and you will understand their purpose.
