Objectives

Student masters different steps in material selection process. He can choose materials, when considering product's use, environment, production and other requirement for example given by law.

1. Material selection as a part of product design: strategy, factors affecting strategy and materia characterisation.
2. Material selection process: process steps, factors affecting selection and data retrieval to support selection.

Accepted: The student is familiar with the significance of the material selection process in product design, the stages of the selection process and is able to apply it to practice. You use reliable and wide-ranging source material.

Rejected: The student is unfamiliage with the steps in the material selection process and is unable to apply them to practice.

Prerequisites

Student masters the basic terminology. He recognizes materials used in mechanical engineerig, their mechanical properties and most common applications.
