Objectives
Purpose of the course
In professional practice you will work in different mental health, addiction and crisis nursing environments. You will evaluate the patient's need for care, and under supervision, plan and implement the nursing care for the patients and their families. Under supervision, you work professionally with patients in acute crisis. You work as a member of a multiprofessional team. Professional practice strengthens your professional ethics and your self-reflection skills.

Content
Culturally sensitive encountering with people of different ages and cultural backgrounds.
Nursing process of a patient with mental health or addiction disorder or acute crisis.
Deepening knowledge and skills in commonly used nursing interventions in mental health and addiction nursing, such as therapeutic nurse-patient relationship, dialogue, psychoeducation and brief intervention.
Supporting the patient in acute crisis.
Applying mental health and addiction nursing legislation and recommendations in different client situations.
Recognizing the factors affecting the safety of the patient, the family and the health care personnel in different mental health, addiction and crisis nursing environments.
Digital and mobile applications in the treatment of mental health and addiction disorders.

Material related to the practice environment
Teaching methods
Practical training in a unit providing nursing care for the patients with mental health disorders, addictions or crisis situation. Unit can be inpatient care, outpatient care, a housing unit or day care unit for this patient group. The mentor in the unit is a registered nurse.
Alternative completion methods
Studification based on the regulations of JAMK University of Applied Sciences. Studification must be applied and agreed before the practice.
