Objective
The knowledge and applying of Development Techniques is basic requirement for innovative problem solving.
You will sufficiently design, implement and manage quality improvement projects in various industrial sectors. In addition, you will learn to choose and use the necessary development tools and techniques.
Your competence is beginning to grow through understanding the basic concepts and terminology of the quality development and controlling. You will further develop to knowing, selecting and last implementing them to solve real problems.
After you have passed to course, you can solve simple production development problems using suitable quality development techniques. In other words, you learn to develop operations etc.
ENGINEERING PRACTICE:
You can select and use development and problem-solving methods/tehniques to solve problems. You are capable of creative problem-solving and production processes development.
INVESTIGATIONS AND INFORMATION RETRIEVAL:
You have the ability to conduct literature searches and use databases and other sources of information in your development work.

Arviointikriteerit, tyydyttävä (1-2)
Assessment consists of exam 50% and learning assignments 50%. The grade is Pass or Fail without the exam. In face-to-face learning you must pass the exam. You have three possible exam dates.
Sufficient (1): You identify the basic knowledge and terminology but you have significant gaps in the knowledge how to understand the most important problem solving techniques and ideas. The most important development tools and techniques are TQM, quality improvement tools: seven old and new and FMEA.
You are able to solve simple problems in a sufficient manner applying different quality techniques.
Satisfactory (2): You are familiar with the basic knowledge and terminology but there are some gaps in the knowledge how to implement the most important problem solving techniques and ideas.
The most important development tools and techniques are TQM, quality improvement tools: seven old and new and FMEA.
You are able to solve unusual problems in a satisfactory manner applying different quality techniques.
Arviointikriteerit, hyvä (3-4)
Good (3): You master the essential knowledge and skills also in more complicated situations, you
- are able to design, implement and manage improvement projects related to the quality performance in production processes
- can choose and use the most important development tools and techniques (TQM, quality improvement tools: seven old and new and FMEA)
Very good (4): The student masters the essential knowledge and skills and can apply the knowledge acquired in a critical and innovative manner to problem solving situations. The most important development tools and techniques are TQM, quality improvement tools: seven old and new and FMEA.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
Excellent (5): You master the essential knowledge and skills and you can apply the knowledge acquired in a critical and innovative manner to problem solving situations. The most important development tools and techniques are TQM, quality improvement tools: seven old and new and FMEA.
You can make simple synthesis and conclusions.
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
Approved: You master sufficiently the basic knowledge and skills, you
- are able to design, implement and manage improvement projects related to the quality performance in production processes
- can choose and use the most important development tools and techniques (TQM, quality improvement tools: seven old and new, and FMEA).
Qualifications
No special prerequisites. Your motivation is the most important thing. The basic technical knowledge helps you to pass the course but it is not necessary.
