Objectives

Knowledge of 3D modeling is a prerequisite for design and simulation. You can design 3D-parts you want in 3D using solid and surface modeling commands, and you can draw 2D drawings of your 3D models. You also know how to model sheet metal parts. You know how to do skeleton and parametric modeling as well as the use of different mechanisms. The student is able to use the software of the item and product management.

Knowledge and Understanding:
You will understand the different 3D modeling techniques and the use of the structural tree and its hierarchy. You are able to attach technical drawings to your reports and assignments and you are also able to illustrate the modeled product with the help of a 3D printer.

Engineering Practice:
You are able to apply the principles of 3D modelling in the design and manufacture of various products. You understand how to design a 3D printable part.

Multidisciplinary Competences:
You understand that the costs are already incurred in the modelling and design phase. A well-modeled product can be easily customized if the starting values change.

Content

3D modeling methods. Model structure and use of structural tree. Hierarchy of features and hierarchy of assemblies. Creating 2D-drawings from the model and creating a parts list from the assembly drawing. Parameterization at both model and assembly level.

Evaluation scale

0-5

Evaluation criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The overall assessment consists of an exam and exercises to be inspected. In order to obtain a grade, the student must take a supervised exam. The exams are arranged three times a year in accordance with the degree rule.

Adequate (1): You recognize the basics and terminology. You can model 3D parts and create 2D drawings of the model and understand their contents.

Satisfactory (2): You know the basics and terminology. You are able to independently produce 3D models with justifiably selected limitations and 2D drawings that make it possible to produce a part.

Evaluation criteria, good (3-4)

Good (3): You are able to produce drawings of 3D models and assemblies that are suitable for working. You are able to use the modeling program commands in a versatile and independent manner and you are familiar with project scheduling and the importance of the PDM system in design. You are able to apply the above independently when modeling parts.

Very good (4): You know 3D modelling. You know how to use commands of modelling of typical engineering products. You can independently find some different ways to model than what has been presented in the course and master the use of different modeling technologies.

Evaluation criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent (5): You are able to apply the different features of 3D modelling to model critically demanding products, and 2D documents are almost flawless. You can independently find different ways to model and master the use of different modeling techniques and apply them to practice.

Prerequisites

Basic information about machine drawing and CAD.
