Objective

After completing the course, you
- master the basic concepts of multicultural work, culture and identity and their meaning in integration process
- master integration and acculturation process to a new country and to a new culture
- learn to use culturally sensitive counselling and work orientation
- understand the meaning of a culturally conscious worker as preventing the process of prejudice and racism, interaction between people from different cultures

Content

The contents of the course are multicultural work, immigration globally and in Finland, current issues in asylum seeker´s process, integration and acculturation process to a new country and to a new culture as well as integration services and legislation. The course also discusses the meaning of culture and consider culturally conscious worker: how to prevent the process of prejudice and racism and increase interaction between people from different cultures.

Location and time

The course is an online course, but you have the option to come to campus for class if you want. The implementation is done as a hybrid.

Teaching methods

Lectures, visitors, videos, group work, discussions, learning diary, participating in multicultural guidance work.
Webinars will be held in Zoom but you have also an opportunity to come to the campus and study in the classroom.

Employer connections

During the course, a study visit is made to a multicultural workplace, where the student gets acquainted with multicultural work in practice for 1 ECTS credit, 27 hours.

Further information

Completing the course requires attending lectures, completing independent assignments for the course, study visits for multicultural guidance work and drawing up a learning diary. The grade of the course is based on the grade obtained from the learning diary.
