Objective

After completing the practical training, you are able to evaluate and develop your competence and professional skills in the operating environment of the social and/or education sector. You are capable of operating in compliance with the ethical principles of the social services sector. You are capable of observing and evaluating the needs of clients in different life situations. You are capable of planning, implementing and evaluating customer needs and activities that enhance participation. You are capable of supporting and counselling different clients and client groups in their everyday lives and life situations in a reciprocal relationship. You are capable of evaluating and developing systematic client work. You are capable of operating in a work community in collaboration with employees. You are capable of using and applying client work methods and are able to work with a service-oriented approach. The students who complete the studies of Bachelor of Social Services in early childhood education complete their practical training in a day-care centre attending a group of children.

Content

The principal contents of practical training include client work and its planning, execution and evaluation. Guiding and supporting client work from the perspective of early childhood education or social services. Additionally, the content of the practical training includes evaluating one’s own actions and utilising the feedback received in the development of one’s competences.

Supervised practical training in the area of client work agreed upon in the personal learning plan, such as early childhood education (Bachelor of Social Services studies in early childhood education), adult social work, substance abuse and mental health work, work with the disabled and the elderly, multicultural work, child welfare, family counselling, school social worker’s duties, duties of the Social Insurance Institution of Finland or labour administration.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Approved (A) After completing the practical training, you are able to evaluate and develop your competence and professional skills in the operating environment of the social and/or education sector. You are capable of planning, implementing and evaluating customer needs and activities that enhance participation. You are capable of supporting and counselling different clients and client groups in their everyday lives and life situations. You are capable of evaluating and developing systematic client work. You are capable of operating in a work community in collaboration with employees. You are capable of using and applying client work methods and are able to work with a service-oriented approach. A student who completes the studies of Bachelor of Social Services in early childhood education is aware of and takes into account the contents of the obligatory early childhood education plan in the planning, implementation and evaluation of activities

Qualifications

Practical training in social services client work 1 must be successfully completed. The student is familiar with the professional, ethical and social guidance and/or pedagogical principles of client work.
