Objective

In the laboratory environment, you will orientate to field devices, their installation technology, circuit connection methods and their testing technology, electrical drives, etc. These topics are covered in the other courses of the hardware design module. You can use what you have learned here, for example, in commissioning tasks.

EUR-ACE ENGINEERING PRACTICE
You know how to work with automation devices during its commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, etc. when working in device-related tasks.

EUR-ACE INVESTIGATIONS
You will be able to plan and implement experimental studies, interpret documents, other input data and results, as well as evaluate the validity of measurements and work in a device environment safely and in accordance with good practices.

Content

Charasteristic curves of control valves
Cold testing
Tuning of transmitters
Cross connections
Commissioning practices
Laboratory works of electrical drives
Active and passive transmitters
Inspection of safety-related automation

- work-related tasks

Exam schedules

There is no exam.

Vaihtoehtoiset suoritustavat

The course includes exercises and laboratory work related to automation hardware design. The procedures for assessment are described in the examination regulations and the study guide. The course tutor will provide further information on any specific procedures for the course.

Student workload

Total workload 54 h of coursework, including preliminary assignments, laboratory work and reporting.

Content scheduling

Before the laboratory work, the preliminary tasks must have been completed. Each student will have two separate visits (one in the automation lab and one in the electrical lab).

Further information

Self-assessments are mainly done through learning tasks. The assessment decision is based on the skills demonstrated in the assignments and laboratory works.

Evaluation scale

Pass/Fail

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

To pass this course you need to know how to work safely with automation hardware and be able to use your skills effectively in testing, operating and commissioning tasks. You are able to get additional information related to the work tasks by using different methods, applying theory in practice. You master the execution of connections and measurements with electrical drives.

Qualifications

Basic knowledge and understanding of the functionality of automation and electrical engineering devices.
