Objective

The course is phase 2 of your thesis process, and during it you will write the theoretical basis of your own thesis. The goal is that you can write formal academic text in your own words based on published sources, follow the principles of scientific writing, and demonstrate your ability to write in accordance with Jamk’s Project Reporting Instructions.

The foundations of using sources
Writing the thesis
The basics of referencing, paraphrasing and own voice

English as the language of instruction:

Teaching methods

Verkkototeutus, opintojakson yhteisen aikataulun mukaisesti. Kyseessä on intensiivitoteutus.
Oppimisympäristönä on Moodlen työtila, joka aukeaa viimeistään kurssin alkaessa. Opetus tapahtuu Zoomissa, jonka linkki ilmoitetaan myöhemmin Moodlessa.

Opintojakso on tarkoitettu suomen kielellä opinnäytetyötään kirjoittaville. Englannin kielellä opinnäytetyön tekeville on tarjolla vastaava Thesis Writing -toteutus.

Opintojaksolle osallistutaan, kun opinnäytetyön lähdeaineistoon on tutustuttu ja tietoperustan kirjoittaminen on aktiivivaiheessa. Tämän varmistamiseksi palautat opintojakson aluksi ennakkotehtävänä 3 - 5 sivua opinnäytetyösi tietoperustaa (ei tutkimussuunnitelmaa). Vain sovitun tietoperustan palauttaneet opiskelijat jatkavat opintojaksolla. Opintojakson aikana tietoperustaa kirjoitetaan lisää, muokataan ja analysoidaan ohjatusti ryhmän kanssa yhteisellä aikataululla.

ke 6.3. klo 23.59 / Tietoperustan (3–5 sivua) palauttaminen Moodleen

ti 5.3. klo 15.00–15.45 / Aloituswebinaari
ti 26.3. klo 15.00–15.45 / Toinen webinaari
ti 23.4. klo 15.00–15.45 / Kolmas webinaari.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Finnish as the language of instruction:
The course is marked as passed when all assignments have been completed and they demonstrate that the themes of the course have been studied and the learning materials have been utilized in the process.

English as the language of instruction:
The course will be marked with a ‘pass’ when all eight analysis templates have been completed successfully and the student has attended the final Show What You Know session.

Qualifications

Before registering for the Thesis Writing course, you should have already completed the Research and Development course (5 credits) and the Bachelor’s Thesis Plan (3 credits).
