Objective

You will get to know the operating and control principles of electric motor drives. Studying in this course requires previously acquired basic skills in electrical engineering and electronics. After completing this course, you will be able to plan electric motor drives.

EUR-ACE ENGINEERING PRACTICE
You have knowledge of electric motor drives. You master the basics of power electronics used in converters, such as the structures and operating principles of commutated rectifiers and inverters. You are familiar with the components and equipment involved in electrical operation. You have the ability to dimension the components of constant speed and adjustable drives for various applications such as e.g. pump, fan, conveyor and line drives. You are familiar with the bus solutions used in the control. You know the most common methods of protection and control of electric drives. You have the ability to parameterize and configure electrical drive devices. You are familiar with the latest technologies used in electric drives and will be able to follow the development of this field in the future.

Exam schedules

The dates and methods of the midterm exams will be announced in the course opening information.

Completion alternatives

The admission procedures are described in the degree rule and the study guide. The teacher of the course will give you more information on possible specific course practices.

Student workload

One credit corresponds to an average of 27 hours of work, which means that the load of five credits is approximately 135 hours. The load is distributed in different ways depending on the course implementation.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Adequate (1): You recognize the basics and terminology, but you have shortcomings in interpreting the key issues.

Satisfactory (2): You know the basics and terminology, but applying things is challenging.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good (3): You are familiar with electrical components and equipment. Own ability to dimension the components of constant speed and adjustable drives for various applications such as e.g. pump, fan, conveyor and line drives. You know the most common methods of protection and control of electric drives.

Very good (4): You master the key things and know how to apply them in a variety of ways.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent (5): You master the key things and know how to apply them in many ways. You are an expert.
