Objective
Bioengineering is a Bachelor's level elective course. It focuses on the forest industry segment.
You will understand the basics of the fundamental processes behind the pulp and paperboard production and the economical principles of the global forest industry and bioeconomy.
You can name and understand the basic processes and main components of mechanical forest industry and pulp, paper and board making production lines.
During team work you will define the opportunities and challenges for producing a specific bioproduct or biofuel from a specific feedstock.
Content
During the course you will study:
- the basics of Finnish and Scandinavian forest industry and its significance globally
- the basics of environmental protection and forest industry business
- the ‘systems’ approach required to produce sustainable bioenergy and bioproducts
- the basic chemical reactions and engineering systems require to convert biomass feedstocks into value-added products
- biomass production systems and how to match feedstocks and products
