Objective
Leaders should be able to create a culture of continuous innovation, learning and improvement, where data is used to inform decision-making and drive change. The health and social service system plays a significant role in contributing to larger societal objectives and to well-being. Thus, the health and social system needs to be examined holistically to identify challenges and acknowledging the various interlinkages within systems functions and goals.
This master’s level course in management provides knowledge and competence for managing data-driven cultures and innovation of where change is needed. Students learn to use various methods to compare and experiment the performance of health and social systems and apply best practices for leading innovations in an organization.
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
Understand the importance and purpose of evaluating health service systems
Know different methods of examination of health and social service systems and their use
Understand and critically discuss fundamental issues on comparing and evaluating health and social service systems
Identify areas for development in managing innovations in an organization
Understand the importance and purpose of benchmarking and learning
Find and apply good practices in health and social service systems
Content
Principles and the role of evaluation in health and social services
The use of evaluation in decision making and in Health Systems Performance Assessment (HSPA)
Comparing and experimenting health and social service systems by measuring health and social service processes, determinants, and outcomes (indicators)
Different countries’ health and social service systems and their comparison
Tools and methods of benchmarking
Digital guidance & interaction in leading innovations

Start of the course: Online teaching Monday 22 April at 5-7 pm (Helsinki time): Orientation session to Summer school: Preliminar info and assignment. All students will participate to this online session.
