Objective

Purpose:
You will learn the basic concepts of kinematics and dynamics. You will also learn logical thinking and problem solving strategies.

EUR-ACE Competences:
Knowledge and understanding

Learning outcomes:
After completing this course you are able to identify the basic principles of kinematics and dynamics.

Content

In this course, you will learn the basics of kinematics and dynamics, which are essential for understanding the fundamental phenomena of mechanics. You will develop logical thinking and problem-solving skills that are useful in many engineering fields. Upon completion of the course, you will recognise the basic principles of kinematics and dynamics and be able to apply them to solve practical problems. This course will give you a strong foundation for further studies in mechanics and practical applications.

SI-units, scalars, vectors, uniformly accelerated one dimensional motion, projectile motion, Newton's laws, mechanical forces, uniform circular motion, rotational motion, torque and moment of inertia.

Location and time

The course is implemented on August 26, 2024 - October 11, 2024.

Oppimateriaali ja suositeltava kirjallisuus

Lecture handout and exercises are available via Moodle.

Teaching methods

The course covers lessons in the classroom and home exercises. Lessons are held only in the classroom.

Employer connections

The content of the course aims to be working life connected.

Exam schedules

The course exam dates and deadlines for home exercises are announced in the first lecture. You are allowed to do resit exam two times during the semester.

Vaihtoehtoiset suoritustavat

The approval procedures are described in the degree regulations and the study guide. The teacher of the course provides additional information about possible alternative course completion procedures.

Student workload

Contact teaching 28 h and independent study 53 h.

Further information

The course is evaluated on the basis of the exam or exams and points collected from calculation exercises.

In the evaluation, the emphasis is on participating in contact teaching and completing calculation exercises. In contact teaching, the attendance requirement is 80%. The exam will be held in the classroom only. There is no remote exam option with this implementation.

Participation in the course must be confirmed by attending the first lesson or by informing the course teacher of your participation by September 1, 2024.
