Objective
By the end of the course, you should be able to
- articulate working definitions of communication;
- identify the key elements of modern communication models;
- correctly apply the standards and conventions of JAMK’s Project Reporting Instructions to a written report on an assigned topic; and
- deliver a stand-up presentation on an assigned topic.
Content
The principal contents of the course relate directly to the required assignments, which deal with
- the definition of communication,
- the conception and realization of a communication model,
- managing interpersonal relations and communication,
- the writing of a report conforming to the standards and conventions of JAMK’s Project Reporting Instructions, and
- development, rehearsal, and delivery of a stand-up presentation.
Other contents include supporting activities and smaller preparatory tasks designed to help you perform your best on the assignments listed above.
Teaching methods
This is an intensive implementation of Communication Skills for Working Life that requires independent work. This is the right choice for you if you can read and follow detailed instructions without weekly interaction with the teacher/fellow students. The deadlines are set at a brisk pace to ensure completion before the summer break. While there is no group work, you will be expected to give feedback on other students’ tasks. It is assumed that you have IT skills that include recording videos with both Power Point and your face present in the same screen. There will be three webinars during the spring, in which you can get immediate feedback from the teacher. Recordings will be made available.
