Objective

The course aims at giving the student and overview of what a modern HRM is in contents and sub-processes across the different stages of employer-employee relationship. Via assignments and workshops student will get a view of the real-life applications of the HRM frameworks introduced.

Upon completion of the course you will be able to:
Skills in Critical and Analytical Understanding IBCRI

Critically review, analyze and understand information available from academic and professional business sources in HRM field.

Applied Business Skills IBBUS

Apply disciplinary and interdisciplinary knowledge to analyze business challenges and trends to propose or take in action practical HRM solutions based on the findings.

Communication Skills IBCOM

Communicate responsibly, effectively and professionally in English in oral and written formats.

Intercultural Collaborative Skills IBCOL

Participate in inter- and multicultural settings and demonstrate teamwork skills

Ethical Conduct IBETH

Embrace ethical conduct in practice and decision-making. This may be according to the Principles for Responsible Management Education (UNPRME) or the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.

Content

HRM´s role in strategy, Job analysis, Workforce Planning and Recruitment, Performance Evaluation and Management, Development and Training, Compensation, Legal and ethical aspects in HRM, Occupational Health and Safety, HRM and emerging technologies, International HRM and careers, Future trends for HRM.

For each content unit there will be processes and analytical tools provided for instantiations of models and concepts learned.

You have the right to apply for recognition of your studies if you have prior learning (e.g. university studies completed elsewhere) that can be accredited towards the degree you are currently completing.
The recognition of prior learning is possible in three primary ways: accreditation (replacement or inclusion), recognition of informal learning and studification. More precise info: JAMK Degree Regulations, section 17.

Student workload

Student workload consists of:
- lectures and workshops: 60 hrs
- groupwork assignments and presentations 59 hrs
- individual self-paced study (assignments + exam preparation) 70 hrs


Total: 189 hrs

Critical and Analytical Understanding Skills: You show some ability to analyze and evaluate academic and business information relevant to HRM.

Applied Business skills: You show some but narrow skills in analyzing business challenges and trends in HRM and propose viable HRM action.

Communications Skills: You are able to transmit to a limited extent your and your team’s ideas and findings in English

Collaborative Skills: You show some but low-level skill in participating productively in inter- and multicultural setting and teamwork.

Ethical skills: You are able to identify and assess some very basic ESR-related issues and discuss superficially their meaningful applications in HRM



Satisfactory (2):

Critical and Analytical Understanding: You show basic ability to analyze and evaluate academic and business information relevant for HRM.

Applied Business Skills: You show skills in analyzing business challenges and trends and propose solutions for HRM but the approach is thin or superficial

Communications Skills: You are able to get your main message through when presenting your and your team’s ideas and findings in English but improvement would be needed.

Collaborative Skills: You show some skill in participating productively in inter- and multicultural setting and teamwork.

Ethical skills: You are able to identify and assess some ESR-related issues for HRM and the action related to them and discuss some of their meaningful applications in the business practice.

Good (3) –
Critical and Analytical Understanding: You show ability to analyze and evaluate business data and consider possible approaches and outcomes for business in HRM

Very Good (4) –

Critical and Analytical Skills: You show very good ability to analyze and evaluate HR-relevant information

Applied Business skills: Student show skills with merit in analyzing business challenges and trends and proposing practical solutions for HRM

Communications Skills: You are able to present your and your team’s ideas and findings in a very good manner in English on a level clearly above average of your peers

Collaborative Skills: You are able to show in a very good manner skill in participating productively in inter- and multicultural setting and demonstrate teamwork skills.

Ethical skills: Student are able to identify on a very good width and depth the ESR-related issues and discuss their meaningful applications in HRM

Qualifications

First year course of Management (JAMK Degree students) or equivalent course of basics of management (exchange students) completed.

The learning outcomes of the course can be deepened during the exchange year at JAMK´s partner universities in courses like Workplace Relations, Workplace Psychology etc.
