The purpose of this course is to understand the meaning of research-based development and to get one's own toolkit for development activities

Learning outcomes
After completing this course, you will understand the difference between scientific research and research-based development. You understand the principles of research-based development and its methodological starting points. You know the process of research-based development. You master and are able to apply some working life development methods in development activities at your field of practice. You understand the importance of research ethics and good scientific practice in research-based development.

Teaching methods

Study methods
Research-based development is an online course on Moodle learning environment. On Moodle you will find course instructions, schedules, assignments and all study materials. You will also attend Zoom webinars once a month. In webinars, you reflect and share what you have learned communally with your student peers.
You will conduct independent information gathering and apply what you have learned in learning assignments.

Guidance
You will receive guidance on Moodle learning environment (e.g. question and answer forum) and webinars. You will also receive guidance from your student peers.

Feedback
You will receive both qualitative and quantitative evaluation and feedback on your learning assignments. You give feedback on the course (mid-term and final feedback on the implementation).

Your student group forms a working life-oriented peer learning network.

During the course, you will utilise international research literature.

You can familiarise yourself with 17§ of Jamk's degree regulations when con-sidering the recognition and recognition of course competence based on your previously acquired competence and the objectives of the course.

Further information

You will receive formative and summative assessment (teacher/peer review) according to the sequencing of content and assignments. The utilisation of artificial intelligence, guidelines and possible ethical questions follow the updated Arene recommendations and Jamk's rules.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

You are able to compare the differences and similarities between research-based development and academic research. You are able to analyse development processes and methods suitable for your development topic, and reflect on and assess their suitability with the help of literature. You understand the significance of research ethics in research-based development. You can develop a topic proposal for your thesis.

The course can be studied by using studification combiningn study & work in accordance with the JAMK Degree regulation 17 § the guidelines for identifying and recognizing competence and the JAMK processes.
