Objectives
Business simulation improves your understanding and capabilities of running global business operations of a firm in a dynamic, competitive environment. The simulation game is used in advanced undergraduate, graduate and executive MBA programs in higher education and corporate training programs. In addition, the platform provides an opportunity to experience strategic positions for executing essential decisions for the company.
At the end of the course, you are expected:
1) You are able to apply theoretical knowledge and experience in real-time challenges. Analyzing the market, following the competition, advancing in the technology, understanding consumer demand and their portfolio, executing the investment decision, organizing the expenses, human resource development and promoting the research and development operations.
2) You are able to critically review, analyze and understand information available from the gaming platform such as market reports, income statements and balance sheets.
3) You are able to apply disciplinary and interdisciplinary knowledge to analyze business challenges and trends to propose or take in action in the simulated market of technology business.
The course aims to develop the following COMPETENCES:

You develop critical and analytical mindset that helps you to study and review existing knowledge in the light of relevant learning resources and learning methods; you to acquire new knowledge; and develops your intellectual capabilities to seek conclusions and draw inferences in various contexts.

Content
Strategic decision making, technology business dynamics, research and development, in-sourcing/outsourcing, competition benchmark, managing finances in multinational organization, business analytics, business reporting, marketing analytics.
Time and location
Four sessions of starting tutorials. Each session is for 90 minutes, at Rajakatu campus. Weekly guidance clinics of 15 mins/team if required.
Learning materials and recommended literature
In class lecture/tutorial slides, guidance videos and clinics, online resources at simulation gaming platform.
Teaching methods
The primary mode of delivery is in-class activities on campus. The in-class activities deepen the learning in the forms of tutorials, individual and group work, reflection and guidance.
Study methods are described below;
Mandatory Participating in the lecture session emphasizing on theoretical notions and game design.
Workshop sessions on Ceism business simulation operations
Actively participating on assignments such as, company press releases, interim report, final report etc.
Team engagements and collaborations
Practical training and working life connections
Business simulation extend and applied aspect of business theories in the domains of marketing, product development, market intelligence, financial analyses, leadership and decision making.
Exam dates and retake possibilities
No exam. Retake/Upgrade opportunity only for the Final Report (10 marks).
Alternative completion methods
You have the right to apply for recognition of your studies if you have prior learning (e.g. university studies completed elsewhere) that can be accredited towards the degree you are currently completing.
The recognition of prior learning is possible in three primary ways: accreditation (replacement or inclusion), recognition of informal learning and studification. More precise info: JAMK Degree Regulations, section 17.

You will get a grade of ‘one' or 'two' if you are able to demonstrate a basic level of evidence in the following competences:

You show some but limited ability to analyze and evaluate business information relevant to decision-making.
You show basic skills in analyzing business information and reasoning on that to make decisions. The decision lack strategic backing. Your decisions lead to poor results measured as development of shareholder value.
You are able to transmit and justify some of your team´s ideas and results in English but business-style communication practice is lacking.
You integrate to the team and its process and give some input into the team´s achievement.
Satisfactory (2):
You show basic ability to analyze and evaluate business information relevant to decision-making.
You show skills in analyzing business information and reasoning on that to make decisions, but the available data is used in a limited way and the long-term planning is not well applied.
You are able to transmit and justify the most important of your team´s ideas and results in English. The communication lacks partly the touch of professional business reporting.
You integrate to the team, commit to do your part and are a member of the team´s achievement.

Good (3) –
You will get a grade of ‘three' of 'four' if you are able to demonstrate a good level of evidence in the following competences:

Basic courses of Management, Marketing and Financial Management (JAMK Degree students) or equivalent course of basics of management (exchange students) completed.
