Content scheduling

The course is divided into two (2) main themes:
The tourism and hospitality sector in Finland and internationally
Multicultural competence and working in a multicultural team

Objective

You recognize the operating environment of the tourism and hospitality industry and sectors sub-areas. You are able to work in multicultural work environments and recognize diversity as part of the operating environment of service business.

Location and time

Contact teaching and lectures at the Rajakatu campus according to a separate schedule. A detailed schedule will be presented in the first lecture of the course and on the Welcome tab of the course's Moodle learning environment at the beginning of the course.

Study trip to Åland from September 29 to October 3, 2025

The course has an 80% attendance requirement.

Employer connections

During the course we will have guests from the professional field, some of whom are alumni of JAMK. Whenever possible, one or more company visits will be arranged. Additionally, a study trip to Åland will be conducted from September 29 to October 3, 2025.

Exam schedules

The course does not have an exam.

There are two opportunities to retake the course's learning assignments. The retake opportunities will be presented during the first lecture of the course implementation, in accordance with the Jamk degree regulations.

If a student has not been active for three weeks from the start of the course implementation, the teacher will cancel the student's enrollment in Peppi.

International connections

Internationalization is realized in this implementation through the study trip to Åland.

Student workload

The course workload corresponds to 135 hours of student work.

The workload is distributed as follows:
Orientation and group formation: 5 hours
Participation in contact teaching at the Rajakatu campus according to a separate schedule: 35 hours
Participation in the study trip to Åland: 40 hours
Independently completed learning assignments (including information gathering, planning, and execution):
- Assignment 1. Learning diary and self-assessment: 20 hours
- Assignment 2. Media monitoring: 5 hours
- Assignment 4. Podcast: 10 hours
Group learning assignment (including information gathering, planning, and execution):
- Assignment 3. Åland: 20 hours

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Pass (S):
The student recognizes the field in the marata sector and the actors influencing to the sector. They understand the effects of cultural diversity in work environments. The student is able to collect and select information from different information resources.


Fail (0): The grade is fail, if the student does not meet the minimum criteria set for the course.

During the course, you will receive both peer feedback and written and oral feedback from teachers on your learning and the completion of learning assignments.

All learning assignments are assessed on a pass-fail scale.

The assessment is based on learning objectives, qualitative, criteria-based, and includes an important role for student self-assessment.

The possibilities for using AI are specified separately for each learning assignment.
