Objective
Purpose of the course
During this course the student will learn to implement evidence based occupational therapy process with clients. The students will learn to write documents and work in client centered ways with clients and inter-professional teams.

Learning outcomes of the course
The student is able to compile, update and utilise the documentation related to the occupational therapy process. The student acts according to the instructions on professional ethicalness for occupational therapy, reliably and self-sufficiently, aware of his/her skills and limitations. Together with individuals/communities the student adjusts and applies the occupational therapy process. The student strives to create an accessible and adaptable environment. The student contributes to the fairness of occupation.
The student knows how to work in cooperation with individuals and groups in a way that improves health, prevents illnesses, rehabilitates, is therapeutic, provides guidance and is client-centred. The student selects the appropriate theories, models that dictate practical work and methods that meet the needs of the individual's occupation and health.
The student uses at least one occupational therapy assessment method and is able to interpret the results of the assessment.
Content
Supervised practical training
Written and virtual assignments related to the content of the practice as well as supervising meetings
Location and time
The course takes place at an internship site arranged by the student at a time agreed upon with the internship site.
Teaching methods
The course takes place in a professional environment of an occupational therapist, in a project, or in an internship that supports entrepreneurship. The course consists of 300 hours of work at the internship site and 105 hours of related learning tasks. During the course, a teacher supervisor from Jamk and a workplace supervisor will be assigned to the student, and regular learning discussions will be held to support the student’s learning.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed
In order to complete practical training with a passing grade a student must demonstrate that they are able to document work they have taken part in. The student has acted according to the instructions on professional ethicalness for occupational therapy, reliably and self-sufficiently, aware of his/her skills and limitations. The student has demonstrated that he/she is able to adjust and apply the occupational therapy process appropriately. The student has demonstrated that he/she strives to create accessible and adaptable environments and has improved occupational fairness.
The student has worked in cooperation with individuals and groups with a client-centred approach that improves health rehabilitates and is therapeutic. The student utilises and applies the appropriate theories, models that dictate practical work and methods that meet the needs of the individual's occupation and health.
The student has gained a competence in and uses one of the assessment methods in occupational therapy and has been able to interpret its results.
Qualifications
Professional Practice I and II
The course is for occupational therapy degree students only.
Further information
During the course, the student sets personal learning goals in collaboration with the supervising teacher and the workplace supervisor. The student is supported in achieving these goals by both the supervising teacher and the workplace supervisor throughout the course. At the end of the course, the achievement of the goals is assessed on a pass - fail scale. The learning tasks related to the course are also assessed on a pass - fail scale, and the student receives feedback supporting their professional development from the supervising teacher and, if possible, from the workplace supervisor.
