Objective

Object of the course:
The knowledge and skills you get on this course you will need in order to be able to know the cause of damage to building elements and condition investigation methods of structures and materials. You will be able to devise condition assessment and investigation reports and to take into account damage phenomena in the maintenance of buildings.
Course competences:

The learning objectives of the course:
You will recognize the buildings of different eras and the typical structures used in them. You are able to estimate risks in structures of different eras. You will know the main causes of damage to building components and the methods to investigate damage. You will be able to analyze the contents of a condition investigation report and understand the criteria for selecting a repair method. You know the most common repair methods. You are able to take into account the damage phenomena in building maintenance. Identify the most common harmful substances for health.
These are also the basic tasks of the course.

Old buildings and structural solutions, risk structures, damage phenomena, condition assessments, damage investigations, methods of preparing, building physical examinations of structures

Timing of Exams and re-Exams will be agreed on the first contact lesson of the course.
The course entrance task must be taken within three ( 3 ) weeks of the course start date in order to maintain the right to study.

Completion alternatives

Certification or accreditation is possible as described in the Jamkin Peppi guidelines.

Student workload

One credit point means an average of 27 hours of work. The load is distributed in different ways depending on the way the course is implemented.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Passable (1): The student recognizes all of the learning objectives, understands the meaning of them and is able to perform the basic tasks described in the learning objectives of the course.

Satisfying (2): In addition to previous skills, the student can systematically describe the issues of the course.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good (3): In addition to previous skills, the student can describe the influences of various solutions and can make reasoned choices between alternatives.

Laudable (4): In addition to previous skills, the student can apply the learned issues independently and is able to evaluate done solutions.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent ( 5 ): In addition to previous skills, the student shows deep knowledge of course contents as well as ability to parse and wider analyze the influences of solutions.
